Being in control of your own mental health is something I am very passionate about.

Work Experience

Ferns background is in the care industry. Having worked in a variety of organisations from home help, to nursing homes and mental health from the age of 16, she has a wide variety of experiences of how mental and physical illness can effect our day to day lives. Whilst working, she also attended University, gaining a degree in Counter Fraud and Criminal Justice, with an interest in both elderly fraud, but also gaining a dissertation involving developing a new piece of evidence to assist in the arrest and prosecution of rape and sexual assault cases. After leaving University, Fern saw there was a serious lack of mental health services in her area, in particular for adults, with mental ill health, that meant they were not always able to access social settings and often lacked the ability to maintain even minimal self care. This is where the Mountain Butterfly was born. Offering not only an online blog often expressing Fern's own personal battle with mental health, but also offering items that could be used to aid personal and self care when at times it feels like to much, to even make a simple cup of tea. Fern gained a level 3 in social work, and has just completed a level 3 in counselling in order to supply free downloadable crises plans and resources so individuals can advocate for themselves, something that is incredibly important to Fern.
